Government Gardens

A five minute walk from Victoria Lodge. Stroll around beautiful gardens, rose garden and botanical garden, take the walking trackfrom the rear of Polynesian Spa to lakefront via Sulphur Point. (1km)

Green Lake:

Look-out Tarawera Road at south end of the Blue Lake. Variety of short and longer walks. Lakefront  Road links to Blue Lake circuit.

Kuirau Park:

A five minute walk from victoria lodge. Children’s playground, thermal activity, footbath, gardens, walks.

Lake Okareka:

A scenic gem on loop road to Buried Village. Track at end of Miller Road offers access to the 22.5km Western Okataina Walkway.

Lake Okataina:

Scenic drive via Lake Rotorua, Hell’s Gate and Lake Rotoiti. Magnificient forest, botanical, Maori history, bird life, trout fishing and walkways. (32km)

Lake Tarawera:

Drive past the Blue and Green Lakes. Popular trout fishing, water ski and boating lake featuring Hot Water Beach and Tarawera Falls walkway. Walking trail starts at Te Toroa Point (Te Toroa Drive is first right after the Landing turnoff) through Boat Shed Bay to Kariri Pointsite of the Spencer Mausoleum (25 minutes) or on to Te Whare Point and Dave’s Spring (45 minutes ). (20km).

Rotorua Lakefront:

Volcanic Playground for children in the Rotorua Village Green. Variety of paid fishing, cruising, jet boating, scenic flight options available.

Mountain Biking:

An extensive MTB trail network exists within Whakarewarewa Forest. The trail network is popular with people of all ages and abilities. Access these trails via MTB carpark, Waipa State Mill Road, first left off SH% to Taupo, after Te Puia. Just 5 minute drive south from City Centre or Victoria Lodge. BYO bike or hire a bike from Cycle Zone in Amohia Street City.

Ohinemutu:

St Faith’s Maori Church, richly decorated cultural interior. Historic Tamatekapua carved meeting house adjacent to lake side Maori village. (2 km from Victoria Lodge).

Sulphur Point Walkway

Loop track from lakefront to Sulphur Point and back through Government Gardens, or start at Sulphur Point and walk east across sulphur flats ( via walkway at rear of Sudima Hotel) to Te Ngae Road. (0.5 km from Victoria Lodge to Te Ngae Road).

Whakarewarewa Forest:

On eastern side of Rotorua City -  Walks, running tracks, picnic sites some with barbeques, views of Blue and Green Lakes. Redwood Grove on Long Mile Road along with Redwoods Visitor centre.
